Last night our U16/U17 footballers played out a most entertaining 60 minutes of top quality football in the annual Garda cup with host club Monivea Abbey.
The home side made all the early running with our lads taking the first quarter to get up to the speed of the game.
With very little between the teams at HT and the bare minimum going into the final quarter the stage was set for an exciting finish.
In tough, hot and very draining conditions the players served up a treat and in an end to end game where it finished up a draw match and went straight to penalties.
In the end, Oran Maree won out in sudden death after Darragh Sweeney saved two penalties and a Ryan O’Donnell scored the winning kick.
Huge thanks to Monivea Abbey for the invitation and organising of a great community event and to all the parents for travelling to the game.
Well done to all involved.
