Earlier this year we got donations of over 2000 tree and hedge plants from Trees on the Land foundation and the BurrenBeo Trust. These were all planted at various locations around our Chubb Renville Gaelic Grounds between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning last weekend. A collage of pictures of the areas planted is shown below – all the plants are young whips only 1-2ft tall and so difficult to see in some of the pictures.
A big thanks to all of the volunteers that turned up and helped out over the two days, doing great work, with a special thanks to Leonard O’Halloran who organised a crew from Cisco for Friday afternoon and to Pat Burke who did all the prep work and also procured a good number of semi-mature Rowan trees which he planted along the Western boundary of the car park and the 4G Astro Pitch. These areas are a bit bare looking at the moment – we will be spreading extra top soil along all of this area later on in the summer, when hopefully we might get some good dry weather!
All of the trees/hedges planted are native Irish plants, including Alder, Birch, Oak, Scot’s Pine, Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Rowan, Wild Cherry, Hazel, Crab Apple, etc..
There will also be another 100 trees planted in the next week or so by the TY students from Calasanctius College who have procured the trees as part of the Future Leaders Native Tree Planting Initiative.
